um onibus para em um ponto lotado. a motorista, loira e mau humorada, abre a porta e os passageiros, na maioria negros saindo de seus trabalhos, entram e procuram rapidamente algum lugar pra sentar. o onibus comeca a andar, e uma jovem negra de seus vinte e poucos anos corre pra alcanca-lo. a motorista fecha a porta na cara dela e segue em frente. todas as pessoas negras do onibus comecam a gritar muito alto e xingar a motorista. ela ameaca largar quem estiver insatisfeito no meio da rodovia. todos se sentam e comecam a ligar pro servico de reclamacoes da companhia de onibus, sem sucesso.esse foi meu primeiro passei de onibus nos eua. aqui quase todo mundo tem carro, quase sempre caminhonetes grandonas em que as maes levam seus 4 filhos pra escola. no onibus, uma maioria de negros e imigrantes latinos, alguns estudantes como eu e grupos de indianos. quando vi a mulher arrancando o onibus na cara da moca, pensei que no brasil isso dificilmente aconteceria. claro, talvez a motorista so estivesse de tpm, ou tivesse brigado com o marido, e nao estivesse disposta a atrasar seus horarios por alguem que chegou 5 segundos atrasada ao ponto. mas pareceu diferente de um mau humor somente, ou pelo menos gerou uma reacao nos passageiros que foi muito assustadora. nao que eu crave que alguem iria agredir a motorista. mas eh como se aquela porta fechada na cara da moca negra representasse muito mais do que o fato dela ter que esperar mais 20 minutos no ponto. eles gritaram soltando uma grande revolta contra o preconceito racial que ainda existe aqui entre negros e brancos.eu estava com a dona nara, que fez a gentileza de ir comigo ate downtown pra me mostrar onde devo descer e pegar o onibus pra oakland, onde fica a universidade. ja aproveitei e comprei o passe pro mes que vem. eh bem interessante o sistema: por 75 dolares, a pessoa compra um passe pra junho, por exemplo, que ela pode usar de forma ilimitada em todo o sistema de transporte publico de pittsburgh, incluindo os onibus e metro. hoje as 12h tenho uma reuniao no escritorio de estudantes internacionais, tipo uma recepcao, e vou sozinha de onibus pela primeira vez. parece besteira, mas to com medo! primeiro que a dona nara e o marido estao na casa da filha em north carolina, e eu estou sozinha aqui (na real tem o joao e a cibelle, um casal de estudantes de medicina de sergipe que esta ficando aqui tambem, mas eles estao na aula o dia todo). e outra que tenho medo de perder a parada!mas perto de embarcar naquele aviao da united nao ha de ser nada.
this weekend is panayiri weekend! for those of you that haven't a clue what i am talking regarding, panayiri is greeek for "festival." so this weekend is greek festival weekend in brisbane! ever since i was a kid i've loved, enjoyed and looked forward to panayiri. most years i either dance or sing, many times the same repertoire as the year before. one of my friends asked me how i can pacify be enthusiastic after more than 20 years of attending. i thought about this have doubts and i asked myself, "what is is about panayiri that year after year makes me excited and contented?" "is it the provisions?" sure the food is great, but its not the drawing point. "is it the greek wines?" hmmm, the greeks aren't really the best wine makers! surprise surprise, its actually the music!at panayiri, a live band plays all my blue-eyed boy greek songs - new and old, and the atmosphere created by the animate band - up there high on that bulky condition - is incredible. and its not scarcely me that feels it. every year i watch (and th? dansant with) hundreds of non-greeks on the big grassy dance floor. they haven't got a clue what the song lyrics mean or how the dance is danced, but they feel moved by the music and the sky and they feel compelled to dance. its a wonderful mania to watcher - so innumerable people so happy and feeling so great that they just want to change residence.that is what brings me back in any case year.so if you live in brisbane, and you've got nothing else planned this weekend, head down to the panayiri at musgrave leave and have a dance - you'll feel so much more intelligent for it! 
L'architecte Jean Nouvel, dont l'une des grandes réalisations reste l'Institut du monde arabe à Paris, a été désigné lauréat de l'édition 2008 du prix Pritzker, la plus prestigieuse récompense mondiale dans le domaine de l'architecture. L'architecte français est récompensé, selon Thomas Pritzker, président de la fondation Hyatt qui décerne ce prix depuis 1979, pour l'ensemble de sa carrière, marquée par « sa poursuite courageuse de nouvelles idées et sa remise en cause des normes acceptées, afin de repousser les limites de son champ d'activité ». Jean Nouvel est le deuxième Français à décrocher ce prix en 29 d'existence, après Christian de Portzamparc lauréat de l'année 1994. Doté de 100.000 dollars, le prix Pritzker qui est souvent appelé « Le Nobel de l'architecture » sera remis à Jean Nouvel lors d'une cérémonie à la Bibliothèque du Congrès à Washington le 2 juin prochain. Parmi ses anciens lauréats figurent l'Américain Frank Gehry, le Sino-Américain Ieoh Ming Pei ou encore, en 2004, la britannique d'origine irakienne Zaha Hadid, la conceptrice de la tour de 29 étages qui accueillera bientôt à Marseille le siège social du groupe de transport maritime CMA-CGM. Quant à Jean Nouvel, son nom a été auréolé de gloire dès la naissance en 1987 de L'Institut du monde arabe et aujourd'hui il y ajoute une reconnaissance ultime, le prix Pritzker.
